The 660-watt package comes with a 5.1-channel AV receiver with 110 watts per channel; three HDMI inputs; DTS and Dolby Digital surround processing; and as much as five speakers.     "Sales of Blu-ray players will hit 2.38 million this year. In 2007 a total of 700.000 Blu-ray players were sold, which means that compared to 2007 the amount tripled," says DisplaySearch report. This does not include sale of the Sony Playstation 3 (also a Blu-ray player). DisplaySearch expects that the format's sales will double in 2009, with current estimates saying 5.31 million.

    Sony has announced an 18-inch laptop, the Vaio AW - an 18.4-inch display with Adobe RGB colour management. That is the digital photos will appear the same onscreen as they will on paper now. The display does 1080p for full HD playback, and its 16:9 aspect ratio matches that of movies. The 18-inch Acer Aspire 8920 also features a 16:9 screen ratio; most wide-screen laptops roll with 16:10. Sony says the Vaio AW weighs a fairly hefty 3.9kg in new money.

    Future of Blu-ray

    News is that Sony Corp will sell three new Vaio all-in-one PC models that will include high-definition Blu-ray disc drives. The Vaio JS model will include a 20.1-inch LCD, Windows Vista Home, and an optional Blu-ray disc drive. The Vaio LV model will feature 24-inch LCD, available Blu-ray ROM drive, available rewritable Blu-ray drive, built-in DVR functionality, and a 1080p HDMI input. The Vaio RT model sports a 25.5-inch LCD and built-in Blu-ray optical drive to play, record, and edit HD video, an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, up to 8GB of RAM, and more. The product includes a built-in Blu-ray disc drive for high-def movies and a new Dualshock 3 controller with rumble functionality.

    Blu-ray Media Format

    At the start of the last century it was predicted that whatever was to be invented has already been invented; nothing more. You can imagine what all has been invented after that. Sony claim that" Blu-ray may easily be the last and final optical disc format" reminds me of that prediction.

    You never know. Further incarnations of Blu-ray may allow the technology to live quite a long life. But it is safer to assume that this Blu-ray may be only the beginning of new ways of storage.
